- Revolutionary community at PIF-owned giga-project to reduce infrastructure footprint and create never-before-seen efficiencies.
- Design embodies Saudi Vision 2030’s commitment to a sustainable, thriving and better future for everyone.
- THE LINE reflects Saudi Arabia’s goal of positioning its futuristic new societies as blueprints for the world.
His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs, and Chairman of PIF, has announced the designs of THE LINE, an unparalleled urban living experience located in the PIF-owned giga-project NEOM.
A civilizational revolution that prioritizes people while preserving the surrounding nature, THE LINE reflects Saudi Vison 2030 and PIF's aim to create new sustainable ecosystems, unlock new thriving sectors and develop innovative opportunities for the future.
Redefining urban development with its 200-meter-wide, 170-kilometer-long structure set 500 meters above sea level, THE LINE will eventually accommodate nine million people and will be built on a footprint of just 34 square kilometers. This will mean a reduced infrastructure footprint, creating first-of-its-kind efficiencies in city functions.
In January last year, His Royal Highness launched the initial idea and vision of the city that redefines the concept of urban development and how cities of the future should look.
HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said, “At THE LINE's launch last year, we committed to a civilizational revolution that puts humans first based on a radical change in urban planning. The designs revealed today for the city's vertically layered communities will challenge the traditional flat, horizontal cities and create a model for nature preservation and enhanced human livability. THE LINE will tackle the challenges facing humanity in urban life today and will shine a light on alternative ways to live."
With access to all facilities within a five-minute walk, residents will also be able to use a high-speed rail – with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes, while an ideal climate ensures residents can make the most of the surrounding nature.
People's health and wellbeing will take precedence over transportation and infrastructure: THE LINE will be powered by 100% renewable energy, without roads, cars or emissions, while 95% of NEOM's land will be preserved for nature. Incorporating a fully digitized design to deliver layered city functions and an outer mirror façade that blends with nature, THE LINE reflects the country's wider ambitions of positioning its futuristic new societies as blueprints for the world.
