Collaborative Efforts in Developing Saudi's Entertainment Industry

Saudi Arabia focused on developing the entertainment, leisure, and sports sector by creating new destinations and expanding the digitalization of gaming through platforms, localized content, and immersive technologies, to grow internal tourism and reach its target of overnight visitors by 2030. Developing the Entertainment, Leisure, and Sports sector is a collective initiative that requires the collaboration of many government and semi-government entities. A sustainable Entertainment, Leisure, and Sports industry will provide significant job creation opportunities and allow Saudi Arabia to regain most of leaked value of entertainment spending abroad.

PIF’s hotel pipeline of approximately 136,000 hotel rooms is to go live by 2030. Further down in the value chain, closer to the end customer. The sports sector is one where PIF assesses its investment opportunities in line with its investment mandate and assessment criteria.

Outcomes through supporting portfolio companies in achieving their business objectives by

  1. SURJ Sports Investment acquired a minority equity ownership stake in PFL and will invest in a new regional league due to launch in 2024, PFL MENA, as well as supporting PFL’s expansion in Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region.

  2. Sela announced Kingdom Arena, a multi-purpose venue that accommodates over 26,000 people, and hosts a large number of sports and music events during the year.

  3. PIF acquired 75% ownership of four Saudi football clubs: Al Hilal, Al Nasser, Al Ahli, and Al Ittihad.

  4. Cruise Saudi unveiled a new 335 meter vessel by AROYA Cruises. 

  5.  Asfar announced Baheej, a diversified asset development and destination management firm, to enhance Yanbu through lifestyle and wellness offerings, and KMC Company to develop attractions in the Al-Baha region.
